We offer advice, support, counselling and therapy to adults, children and young people, family and friends who have experienced or been affected by abuse and trauma. Our approach is trauma-informed, holistic, and LGBTQ+ aware, working in partnership with other professionals and community groups with the aim of improving well-being and quality of life.
There is high demand for our services. Our referrals increase every year, and Safety Net continues to flourish thanks to our dedicated team and the support of our funders.

We offer therapy and support across Cumbria. We currently provide services through telephone, video, email, and face-to-face sessions and groups. Going forward, we intend to maintain a choice of service delivery approaches, as this is what our service users tell us they want.
Our Carlisle Head Office has office space, three counselling rooms, a play therapy room, and an art room. We also have a Whitehaven office with three counselling rooms and outreach offices across Cumbria. Feedback from our clients indicates that our spaces are extremely comfortable, with both children and adults having everything they need for talking and creative therapies, including art or play therapy.
Our Safety Net counsellors, therapists, and trauma-informed practitioners are all trained, qualified, and members of their respective professional bodies. Safety Net is an organisational member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and adheres to the BACP ethical framework.
We are also an accredited member of The Survivors Trust, a national sexual abuse umbrella organisation, and we meet the service standards set by this organisation. Our values are aligned with One Small Thing’s Working with Trauma Quality Mark at the Silver Level. Our trauma-informed work is integrated into our culture, practices and environment, and we prioritise individual needs and well-being.
