Support for refugees

We provide support services for refugees, asylum seekers and resettlement families in Cumbria. We know you may have gone through a lot. You may have faced trauma, hardship, and loss. We are here to listen, support, and help you move forward.

Everyone has their own story. You don’t need to have faced abuse to ask for our help. Our services are private and help you work through what you have been through. We work with you so you feel in charge of your own recovery.

The impact of trauma on refugees

Refugees and asylum seekers often go through very hard times. Many have faced violence and seen terrible things happen to family and friends.

They leave their home to live somewhere else, often with no house, little English, and little knowledge of the asylum process.

If you are a refugee or asylum seeker, you might feel lonely, sad, angry, or numb. All feelings are normal. Trauma affects your mind, body, and relationships. It can be harder when you are in a new place that doesn’t feel like home.

We are here to help. You do not have to go through this alone. We are here to listen and to help you process what you have gone through.

If you have also faced domestic or sexual abuse, please visit these pages for more information.

Our housing projects

Finding a safe home can be hard for refugees, resettlement families, and asylum seekers. You may face trauma, housing issues, language barriers, and challenges in a new culture.

Last year, we started two new housing projects. One is for a refugee hostel, and the other is for short-term accommodation. We currently have space for new residents.

Our housing projects are safe spaces while you receive short-term and long-term counselling with our team. When you’re ready, we also offer art therapy groups, peer support, and befriending to help you feel part of the community.

You are not alone
